C19 Victorian Barn

Within the wider context of Wickham Hall - a diversifying historic farm - lies a variety of farm buildings. These buildings vary in timeline, style, use and states of repair. The existing Victorian barn at wickham hall had fallen into a state of disrepair. The rehabilitation of this building includes the renovation of the barn and attached livestock building.

The program for the new building is commercial office space. The new design fulfills this brief while respecting and enhancing the structure of the existing barn. Existing cladding was stripped away to reveal an oak structure. A new first floor lies within this structure, as well as a second storey consisting of timber pods and a bridge which hangs within the roof trusses. One of these spaces houses a bat loft to accommodate bats that reside in the building.
